Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Patient Safety Sitter at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: 

  • Responsible for the safety of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse
  • Observes patient status for changes in behavior and reports all observations to the Registered Nurse
  • Ensures patient safety by providing a safe environment, observes the patient's environments for safety risks and takes necessary steps to reduce the risk.
  • Applies appropriate interventions: Observe, redirect, diversional activities.
  • Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
  • Ensures positive patient and team interactions by promoting HMH core beliefs and standards of
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy and dignity.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs (or in progress) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required prior to performing patient observation
