Overview

The Psychologist functions as a clinical psychologist under the supervision of the Section Chief, Audrey Hepburn Children's House and the Supervisor Psychology, in accordance with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association, guidelines from the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners, and standards set forth by the joint Commission.

In general, the Psychologist independently diagnoses and treats mental disorders and aspects of psychological adjustment. Specific to the Children's House, the Psychologist performs those functions in the area of child maltreatment and family violence. The specific scope of practice will be articulated in the delineation of privileges as issued in the process of appointment to the Medical Staff.

Responsibilities

1. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of a psychologist as prescribed by training and standards and delineated by the medical staff appointment.

2. Conducts diagnostic evaluations and demonstrates knowledge and skills in the use and interpretation of assessment tools and subsequent integration into the formulation of a diagnostic impression.

3. Performs specialized psychological and psychosocial evaluations of children and adults in cases of child maltreatment and family violence.

4. Provides effective, evidence-based psychological interventions.

5. Provides specialized trauma informed treatment to children and families in cases of child maltreatment and family violence.

6. Functions as a consultant in the Department of Pediatrics in the areas of child maltreatment.

7. Provides case management and coordination with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P).

8. Provides program services in accordance with HUMC policy and procedures, the Joint Commission, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P), the American Psychological Association (APA) and the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners.

9. Maintains records and documentation of patient contact according to the laws of the State of New Jersey and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P).

10. Works cooperatively with county multi-disciplinary teams consisting of prosecutors, detectives, child protective services workers and victim advocates.

11. Provides crisis intervention and emergency services to victims as needed.

12. Serves as resource and liaison to community and governmental agencies who seek medical and mental health information or services for victims of child maltreatment.

13. Participates in professional and community educations conferences and seminars on related topics.

14. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs.

15. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in psychology with an internship in clinical child, school psychology, adult clinical, and/or pediatric psychology.
  • Post-doctoral training and/or experience in child maltreatment or forensic psychology (Preferred) 
  • New Jersey PhD or PsyD state license or an alternative qualifying permit, including:
    • New Jersey State one-year unsupervised permit (13:42-3.1),
    • New Jersey State three-year supervised permit (13:42-3.2),
    • Under direct supervision of a licensed practicing psychologist, pursuant to N.J.S.A 45:14B-6(a)3 and as outlined for exempt status organization per New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners regulation 13:42-1.3.
  • Psychologist license or practicing psychologist license (Preferred)

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $111,924.80 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
