Transporter ensures the safe transport of patients to and from all patient care areas via stretcher, wheelchair, or ambulatory process.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Transporter at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Transports patients, on a daily basis, safely to and from various departments, informing nursing staff of the transport and return, with 100% accuracy of observing safety standards.
    • Railing are in upright position.
    • Intravenous needle remains in place.
    • Monitors supply flow or oxygen as established by the attending nurse. 
    • Strap patient to transport. 
  • Receives assignments from technical personnel involved with their respective Departments.
  • Upon lifting the patients, with assistance if needed, moves them to wheelchair/stretcher and transport the patient to the assigned examination room
  • Travels to different patient care areas to obtain stretcher/wheelchair for use if unavailable on the floor for scheduled patient pickup
  • Brings all stretchers and wheelchairs to a centralized storage location. 
  • Transport patients safely with 100% accuracy.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for the department and Medical Center. 
  • Delivers medical orders, patients reports and preparatory information to patients care units with 100% accuracy.
  • Assists in the movement of supplies within and around the department.
  • Assists technologists in the transport of portable equipment. 
  • Assists clinical staff and technologists in the handling of patients and language interpretation, if needed. Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

  • Previous experience as a transporter preferred 

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $17.24 Hourly
