The Manager of Infection Prevention and Control implements an Infection Prevention and Control and program for all areas of the campus including the Carrier Clinic Hospital, The East Mountain Youth Lodge, The East Mount School and the Blake Recovery Center in accordance with accepted medical practice, federal, state, and local regulations, and accrediting organizations. The primary focus of the program is to prevent nosocomial infections through surveillance, recommendation of preventive measures, and education of personnel, medical staff, students, and patients.

A day in the life of a Manager of Infection Prevention and Control at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Develops, implements, manages and evaluates the organizational infection prevention program.
• Conducts an annual risk assessment and develops an annual Infection Prevention plan based on population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.
• Conducts an annual risk assessment and develops an annual Infection Prevention plan based on population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.
• Develops initiatives and interventions to successfully meet Network and Hospital level infection prevention goals.
• Communicates infection prevention information and data to the Infection Control Committee, administrative/medical/nursing leadership and other committees as assigned.
• Analyzes and identifies any trends in infection prevention data and reports in an appropriate time frame.
• Participates and ensures team members round on units/departments to observe compliance with infection prevention policies/procedures and provide just in time coaching (e.g. Disinfection processes, hand hygiene and PPE).
• Assures 24/7 coverage of the department.
• May be required to work or be on call weekends and/or second shift based on department needs.
• Develops and provides timely, actionable feedback and reports to clinical, administrative and support staff on all Infection Prevention initiatives
• Oversees the surveillance for hospital-acquired infections and ensures compliance with CDCs NHSN definitions and CMS regulations for participation as well as reporting requirements to the State and local health departments. Manages the NHSN database for accuracy, analytics and reporting.
• Oversees documentation and reporting communicable diseases as defined by federal, state, and local levels.
• Evaluates and manages investigations of infection related outbreaks, implements appropriate control measures and monitors effectiveness of control measures.
• Develop, interpret, and assist with implementation and education of infection prevention policies and procedures.
• Reviews and maintains all department policies that relate to infection control annually.
• Maintains an updated knowledge of all infection prevention regulatory and accreditation standards per CMS, NJ DOH, Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC
• Oversees standards, practices and compliance involving sterilization, disinfection, construction and sanitation as they pertain to Infection Prevention.
• Oversees Infection Prevention and Control Construction Risk Assessments (ICRAs) for construction, renovation and maintenance projects and monitors compliance with infection prevention recommendations to reduce risk of communicable disease exposures to patients and TM's.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology or a Healthcare related field.
• Must have sufficient knowledge of the unique aspects of this organization and understand the regulatory requirements for the Inpatient Hospital, the East Mountain Youth Lodge, a residential level of care for Adolescents, The East Mountain School, a private high school for adolescents with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric issues, and the Blake Recovery Center, a detox and rehabilitation center for adults with substance use disorders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Ability to implement evidence-based guidelines
• Expertise in data collection and analysis, report writing, and data presentation
• Program and project management
• Strong Leadership and Conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated Analytical, Problem solving, and Collaboration skills
• Computer experience with multiple programs including Google application

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Certified Infection Control practitioner OR must complete CIC Certification within two (2) years of hire.
