The EBC Associate is responsible for entering all data into the electronic birth certificate (EBC) and Paternity Opportunity Program (POP) and ensuring compliance with all state and local regulations for both programs.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a EBC Associate at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: 

 

  • Accurately gathers and inputs all required data for electronic birth certificates (EBC)
  • Ensures correct information is reported to the Social Security Administration for the issuance of Social Security numbers to newborns
  • Collaborates with the State to correct any problems or changes to the electronic birth certificate
  • Maintains all birth, morbidity and mortality statistics and reports
  • Prepares standard and ad-hoc computer reports and maintains related statistics
  • Obtains physician signatures and/or certification as required for all certificates
  • Sends required documentation of all births to the local registrar and State timely
  • Generates Fetal Death Certificates for funeral homes
  • Safeguards sensitive medical information and follows strict procedures in handling confidentiality of data pertaining to patients
  • Assists with routine secretarial duties as needed
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned
  • Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred 
  • Previous experience as a unit secretary in a hospital setting preferred
