Responsibilities

  • Provides safe and knowledgeable intervention in crisis situations under the supervision of the RN, to ensure safe and consistent quality of care.
  • Takes initiative to identify and intervene in crisis situations using appropriate de-escalation and/or other modes of crisis management according to the Behavior Management Policy.
  • Able to assess the environment, target potential crisis situations, and intervene in a calm, safe, supportive manner.
  • Responds to all emergencies as trained and directed (First Aid, Code Blue, Code Red and Code Triage).
  • Assists with unit secretary and mental health technician duties as directed.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff.
  • Teaches Handle With Care and de-escalation techniques to staff, under the supervision of the CIS Coordinator.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  •  3 years experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting required

Skills/Licenses Preferred:

  • Drivers License
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 90 days of hire
  • First Aid Program
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/ university in social work, psychology, nursing or related field
