Performs assigned duties under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse. Sets up and operates hemodialysis machine to provide dialysis treatment for patients with kidney failure in keeping with policies and procedures, as well as, Federal/State regulations, AAML/OSHA standards, Quality Assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
1. Accurately completes assignments within scheduled time periods: Assignments are accurately completed with minimal supervisory counseling. Completes patient related activities within scheduled time periods.
2. Assists colleagues: Provides assistance to colleagues as needed or when requested
3. Communicates pertinent patient information: Communicates pertinent patient information to the Registered Nurse throughout the shift and before breaks. Monitors and documents dialysis treatment parameters (vital signs, weight, blood flow rate, VFR arterial and venous pressures, etc.
4. Cooperates with reassignments in the interest of patient care: Adapts work schedule to meet the needs of the unit. Ensures adequate staffing needs are met through willingness to float and volunteers to cover the unit and/or other areas of the hospital.
5. Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues: Assignments are accurately completed with minimal supervisory counseling. Completes patient related activities within scheduled time periods.
6. Participates in the improvement process of quality patient care.: Takes self-directed or self-motivated initiative to do more than is expected or required in the job, acts before being required to by events, to improve job performance, and/or creates new opportunities.
7. Practice, judgment and critical thinking.: Practice judgment and critical thinking to accurately reflect professional standards/ethics, current NJ Department of Health requirements, JCAHO and institutional policies and procedures, which provides for effective and safe patient/customer outcomes.
8. Provides direct patient care: Performs patient care duties in a safe and efficient manner. Follows plan of care as directed by the Registered Nurse; initiates and terminates hemodialysis treatments following unit procedures and prescribed treatment.
9. Responsible for continuing education and expanding job knowledge: Reinforces the teaching of patients and families based on identified health needs. Random five chart audit to determine documentation of patient teaching i.e. teaching plans, unit routines etc.
10. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
11. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
12. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification
