The Lead Cardiovascular Tech will assist physicians with all invasive cardiovascular procedures and circulatory support devices as indicated (i.e. IABP and Impella). In addition, the Lead Cardiovascular Tech will assist with the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, adherence to protocols for clinical research trials, and support quality based departmental initiatives. Confers with the manager as necessary to improve the functions of Cardiac Cath Lab suites.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Lead Cardiovascular Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Prepares and organizes specific equipment and sterile tray for each procedure.
2. Oversees maintenance, operation calibration and routine periodic evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment and ensures quality control standards are maintained
3. Participate and ensure: Staff scheduling, technical competency, training and coaching.
4. Active participant in quality and performance improvement initiatives (i.e. ACC-NCDR, ACC Accreditation, regulatory requirements).
5. Responsible for collaboration with organizational Radiation Safety Officer and coordinating lead and radiation badge maintenance quality monitoring programs.
6. Adhere, monitor and support radiation safety standards per the organization's policy and procedure.
7. Participates in evaluation of new equipment, technology, and supplies for the Cardiac Cath Lab
8. Assists with maintenance, calibration and routine periodic evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment, consistent with regulatory guidelines.
9. Recognizes and interprets all cardiac arrhythmias
10. Maneuvers the table controls for physicians, as requested. Radiology Technologist (RT) only maneuvers fluoroscopy as requested.
11. Responsible for orienting new physicians and fellows to Cardiac Cath Lab equipment
12. Precepts new technologists
13. Assists with special projects as needed
14. Assists nurses and physicians in supportive measures necessary to restore and/or maintain the patient's well-being in an emergency
15. Operates equipment safely: Prepares and cares for equipment, returns supplies as necessary. Correctly labels and reports broken equipment
16. Intervenes with proper technique and utilizes procedures and safety precautions to maintain patient and personal safety in the environment of care
17. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques and assist in educating all to the principles of isolation according to policy and procedure
18. Lifts minimum of 40 lbs., pushes and pulls minimum of 100 lbs. and stands minimum of 4 hours a day.
19. Promotes a professional environment through role modeling and demonstrated behaviors consistent with HMH core values of Collaboration, Courage, Compassion, and Creativity
20. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
21. Other duties and/or projects as assigned
22. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Graduate of an accredited radiologic technologist program.
2. Minimum of 3 year prior experience in cardiac cath lab or interventional radiology environments.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platform.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Associates or Bachelors Degree in health science field.
2. Prior experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory, invasive procedure area or special procedures radiology

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Diagnostic Radiography License.
2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $43.63 Hourly

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
