Responsibilities

A day in the life of OR Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Actively participate in all scrubbing responsibilities in compliance with HMH policies and AORN Recommended Standards of Practice.
  • Displays an understanding of surgical procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how to care for surgical instruments, equipment, and supplices essential for the surgical procedure.
  • Maintains compliance with the following standards of practice including but not limited to the HMH Infection Control and OSHA requirements. Understands the proper handling of surgical specimens in accordance with department and HMH policies and procedures.
  • Understands aseptic and sterile field management including but not limited to scrubbing, gowning, gloving, preparing the sterile field, and identifying breaks in sterility.
  • Assists the surgical team in the room turnover and preparation for the next surgical procedure.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, preceptorship of new team members, and other activities that will improve patient outcomes.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Licenses, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Graduated from an accredited education program for Surgical Technologists..
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully complete orientation and all associated competencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) unless exempt per NJ Surgical Technology Certification Law.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Minimum of one year (1) of surgical scrubbing experience in an acute care setting.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $28.93 Hourly

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
