The Hemodialysis Patient Care Tech is responsible for providing dialytic therapy to hemodialysis patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
1. Performs post and intra-dialytic treatment vital signs and weights.
2. Calculates UFR and verified by R.N.
3. Performs cannulations of AV fistula/gortex graft. After RN assesses patency of CVC, Technician may initiate treatment.
4. Documents intra-dialytic vital signs on patient's flow sheet.
5. Initiates and terminates hemodialysis treatment.
6. Notifies R.N. of patient's change of status.
7. Ensures that conductivity on machines is maintained at all times.
8. Complies with infection control policies and procedures.
9. Stocks supplies when needed.
10. Sets up and breaks-down Fresenius hemodialysis machines after appropriate orientation.
11. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
12. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
