The Insurance Manager provides comprehensive insurance and self-insurance expertise and support to Hackensack Meridian Health, fostering strong relationships with team members across the network. Manage all aspects of insurance and risk financing products, including procurement and implementation within commercial and captive markets. Demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to multi-task and effectively manage diverse responsibilities within the Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance Department.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Insurance Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Conducts due diligence and risk assessments for onboarding healthcare providers, collaborating with Physician Contracting, Human Resources, and Legal departments. Evaluates risk for participation in the organization's insurance program, including review of professional service agreements with external insurance coverage. Liaises with insurance brokers to secure updated certificates of insurance and confirm additions/deletions to the program.
  • Manages insurance renewal processes, collaborating with internal teams to complete and submit all required renewal applications.
  • Provides claims and litigation support by collaborating with the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) to confirm coverage for summons and complaints, Potential Compensable Event (PCEs), and notices of claims received on behalf of employed physicians, mid-level providers, and team members.
  • Collaborates with the property insurer, FM Global, Realty, and Finance departments to ensure accurate property valuations and maintain updated statement of values (SOV).
  • Manages automobile claims with the Third-Party Administrator (TPA), coordinates vehicle changes with the Fleet Manager, and collaborates with Human Resources to manage Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) for HMH drivers.
  • Coordinates with Academic Affairs to obtain annual lists of incoming and outgoing residents, ensuring appropriate medical malpractice coverage is procured and maintained.
  • Supports the Director of Insurance in the contract review process.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in either insurance, risk management, underwriting, insurance brokerage organization
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience in leading insurance and risk finance programs for a large complex organization; healthcare organization a plus

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Professional Designation (e.g. NJ P/C Brokers License)

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $131,144.00 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
