The Manager of Accounting and Research is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of grant and clinical trial reporting which include, preparation of budgets for grant / clinical trial applications, general ledger grant/clinical trial revenue and expense analysis, submission of monthly, quarterly, and/or annual grant/clinical trial expense reports, working with auditors during the year end Uniform Guidance audit and other requirements as outlined in detail below.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager of Accounting and Research at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Oversees all financial responsibilities relating to Research Grant Administration (pre and post-award).
  • Reviews financial grant reports and invoices for public and private grant programs and clinical trials, if applicable, for internal review and submission to public and private agencies, as required.
  • Oversees and ensures appropriate receipt of funds specific to each grant/clinical trial are collected and open receivables are managed properly.
  • Reviews and approves, on a monthly basis, all research and grant revenue and expenditures. Analyzes each clinical trial fund and each Federal/State/Private Foundation grant to supporting documentation.
  • Prepares, reviews all other financial reports as required, including financial reports to Principal Investigators.
  • Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Ensures that monthly Time & Effort sheets are submitted from Program Managers through PeopleSoft Time and Labor and reconciles to actual grant reporting.
  • Maintains database of all capital purchases funded with Federal/State grant monies and communicates this information to Accounting Team to ensure items are included in the PeopleSoft Asset Management System.
  • Coordinates Physical Inventory of Federal/State grant related capital assets per internal policies.
  • Works/Meets with Research Administration, Principal Investigators, and others to ensure that departmental budgets are completed properly each year.
  • Prepares Research Division Financial Statements for review by Director and distribution to Network Leadership monthly.
  • Reviews and provides status updates of specific grants and/or clinical trials with Research Administration, Principal Investigators and others as necessary.
  • Oversees the preparation of documentation for external auditors for annual Uniform Guidance Audit (also known as the A-133 Audit) of Federal and State Grant Expenditures for the Network. This includes: preparation of the Schedule of Federal and State Awards (i.e., SEFA, SESA), Data Collection Form and other schedules as necessary to complete the audit. Acts as day-to-day contact for the Annual Uniform Guidance audit(s) with external auditors
  • Preparation of and adherence to policies specific to Federal, State, and Private Foundation grants as well as clinical trials.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in accounting or in a related area.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • CPA and/or MBA.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $131,144.00 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.


Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
