As a member of an interdisciplinary team, this position is responsible for occupational therapy evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, documentation and patient/family education. Performs other professional duties and participates in department/facility initiatives based on needs and opportunities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Occupational Therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Prepares for the evaluation in accordance with department policies/procedures and standards of practice including obtaining patient history, exhibiting knowledge of patient diagnoses and researching unfamiliar diagnoses.
2. Selects and administers tests and measures. Additionally, synthesizes evaluation results to formulate the diagnosis, goals, prognosis and plan of care.
3. Establishes treatment plan based on evaluation results, goals and best practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team, patients and patient's support system.
4.  Assesses and re-assesses need for modifications to plan of care and goals. Identifies need for consultations and/or refers the patient to another health care professional or health care services.
5. Initiates and completes discharge plan.
6. Provides education/training to patient and/or patient support system.
7. Provides assessments for ADLs/IADLs; therapeutic activities (e.g. transfers, bed mobility); rehabilitation equipment prescription and training and community reintegration
8. Provides neurological interventions include but are not limited to handling techniques, neurodevelopmental training, seating and positioning, vision/perception, cognitive rehabilitation, neuromuscular re-education, spasticity management and behavioral management.
9. Provides musculoskeletal Interventions: This may include but is not limited to, therapeutic exercise; manual therapy; joint mobilizations;
10. Addresses issues which include but are not limited to self-esteem, self-awareness, stress management, interpersonal and social skills, and wellness.
11. Collects and records patient care data that follows format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies and third-party payers which reflects an understanding of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care. This includes, but is not limited to, initial evaluation, daily notes, reassessments/progress reports, discharge plans and communication with members of the team.
12. Additionally records daily billing and follows department guidelines for productivity.
13. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
14. Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
15. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hours a day.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Graduate of an AOTA Occupational Therapy Program or equivalent.
2. Eligible for school certification

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Experience preferred, entry level acceptable, brain injury experience a plus
2. Computer skills and knowledge of applications such as word, excel power point preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Occupational Therapist License.

Starting Minimum Rate

Flat Rate of $55.03 Hourly

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
