The Supervisor for the Bariatric Program plans, directs, develops and organizes the daily operation of the Bariatric Surgery Program. Provides general supervision and coordinates all administrative functions within the department; Coordinates financial clearance process; Monitors patient care process; Monitors financial and insurance status of persons served; Maintains appropriate staffing; Assures program meets requirements of all certifying agencies and other institutional requirements and guidelines; Responsible for maintaining performance improvement indicators; Responsible for program development; Demonstrates knowledge of adult medical surgical patients and the patho-physiology of the obese patient including but not limited to risk factors management, short and long term complications, nutrition, behavioral changes and patient education.

A day in the life of a Supervisor, Bariatric Program at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Performs and documents patient assessment. Evaluates that patient care is administered consistently through intervention, written documentation, observation and comparison to established standards. Serves as a clinical resource regarding patient care concerns and issues. Communicates and coordinates with families, physicians and other health professionals regarding care to patients. Provides direct patient care and counseling, education/instruction. Ensures unit compliance with policies, procedures and patient care documentation requirements. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including Department of Health and JC. Arranges for patient diagnostic procedures. Ensures unit compliance with policies, procedures and patient care documentation requirements. Assists with follow up of patient medical condition and test results. Evaluates that patient care is administered consistently through intervention, written documentation observation and comparison to established standards. Communicates and coordinates with families, physicians and other health professionals regarding care to patients. Coordinates care with referring physician. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including Department of Health and JC. Contacts pharmacies to authorize prescription medications for patients.
• Assures proficiency and accountability of staff. Ensures new staff is oriented to the Center. Verifies staff competency. Develops competency assessment documentation tools. Coordinates on going employee training and in-service program. Ensures all regulatory education requirements are met. Monitors and evaluates staff performance. Communicates with staff through regularly scheduled staff meetings. Verifies bi-weekly payroll. Assists the Medical Director in the development and implementation of the Centers operation protocols, and policies and procedures. Updates protocols and policies & procedures based on Quality Improvement data. Monitors compliance to protocols, policies and procedures.
• Market the centers programs to physicians and the community. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory license and accrediting regulations. Develops and maintains a quality assurance improvement program. Ensures that bariatric outcome data is submitted in timely by MBSAQUIP Surgical Clinical Reviewer. Assists Medical Director in developing forms, educational materials and brochures. Serves as a liaison for staff, administration and other departments.
• Prepares budgetary expenditures for supplies. Reviews monthly expenditures through variance reports. Works with insurance company on complicated eligibility and claims issues.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• BS or BA in healthcare related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in area of specialization (adult medical/surgical, GI Bariatrics).

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Prior experience in the field of Bariatrics.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

Starting at $106,329.60 Annually
