The Respiratory Therapy Resident is an adjunct to the respiratory therapy staff and works to orient to Hackensack Meridian Health policies and practices while being provided the environment to cultivate skills and knowledge to pass certification exams required for RT licensure. The Respiratory Therapy Resident is not to provide direct patient care. Respiratory Therapy Residents will learn best practices through observation of patient care by the precepting respiratory therapy department.
A day in the life of a Respiratory Therapy Resident at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Assemble, test, and troubleshoot various respiratory therapy equipment
2. Observe and participate in multidisciplinary rounds
3. Attend didactic learning seminars to enhance knowledge and patient care
4. Learns and demonstrates proficiency through practice driven competencies
5. Maintains infection control standards throughout the department and in satellite locations.
6. Must obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist credential and valid New Jersey Respiratory Care license within 6 months of hire.
6. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
7. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Diploma/degree in respiratory care or other relevant area of study from a CoARC accredited facility.
2. Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy education program.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
2. NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner License within 6 months of entering position.
3. NJ Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate within 6 months of entering position.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
2. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.
3. Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
Working Conditions:
1. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 15 lbs. and stands a minimum of 10 hours a day
