The Pre-Award Research Grant Analyst provides comprehensive administrative and technical support to faculty and staff pursuing funding for research, public service, and institutional projects. This role prepares and submits grant proposals to both federal and non-federal sponsors, researching and interpreting relevant regulations and sponsor guidelines, and overseeing the processing of grants and contracts. This role assists Principal Investigators (PIs) with budget development, submits programmatic reports for awarded grants, and manages grant submissions through the eResearch software platform.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Pre-Award Research Grant Analyst at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Establishes standards and deadlines for grant proposals or applications, and reviews proposals or applications for completeness and compliance with grant terms.
  • Analyzes and evaluates contract and grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories including but not limited to, salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustment increases, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, and equipment.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact and negotiator between Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH), funding agencies, and contract partners. Researches and drafts detailed responses to RFPs and RFQs, as well as reviews and approves contracts and agreements to ensure alignment with institutional standards and funding requirements.
  • Analyzes and evaluates awarded proposals, contracts, and subcontracts for compliance with funding agency, federal, state, and university requirements; prepares required acceptance documentation, and obtains institutional signatures.
  • Assists recipients or applications with proposals, applications, or program budgeting and reporting.
  • Builds grant proposals and corresponding award record in grant software and maintains a shared drive with all relevant application materials. Routes awarded grants for financial conflict of interest and compliance review.
  • Manages receipt and documentation of awards and contracts, ensuring timely processing and compliance. Maintains accurate records for proposals and funding, supporting data integrity and audit readiness. Prepares regular and ad hoc reports, studies, and analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Reviews and tracks progress of assigned grants and clinical trials, providing timely status updates to Research Administration, Principal Investigators, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provides a list of all proposed grant applications and current grants to research and finance administration.
  • Assists post award with outstanding billing/payment discrepancies with the sponsors.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or a related area and 3 years of experience in grants & contracts or in a related area;
  • Do you have equivalent 5 years of experience in grants & contracts or in a related area and High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), GED equivalent programs, and/or other Vocational degrees/certificates.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Research Administration experience.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $82,513.60 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.


Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
