The Manager, Board Relations plays a critical role in supporting the governance and management of Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation's Board of Trustees. This role is responsible for coordinating all aspects of board engagement, governance, communications, and meeting logistics. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with a deep understanding of nonprofit governance and a commitment to the mission of the organization. In collaboration with the VP, Strategic Programs, the Executive Director, Board Relations is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and monitoring initiatives associated with the HMH Foundation's Boards of Directors. The Manager also serves as the liaison between the Network Board of Directors, the HMH Boards of Directors and senior Network and Foundation leaders.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Board Relations at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Board Administration & Governance
    • Support the planning and execution of all board and committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda development, preparation of materials, minutes, and follow-up communications.
    • Ensure compliance with bylaws, board policies, and governance best practices.
    • Maintain board records, including rosters, term limits, biographies, and conflict of interest disclosures.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of board orientation and ongoing education.
  • Board Engagement
    • Foster relationships between board members and HMH Foundation and Network leadership, supporting them in their roles as ambassadors and advocates.
    • Develop and implement systems to support effective board participation, such as calendars, portals, and communication tools.
    • Coordinate board member involvement in organizational activities, including events, committees, and strategic initiatives.
    • Serve as a conduit of information to and from development officers in support of crafting the most effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for individual Trustees.
  • Communications
    • Serve as a trusted point of contact for board members, providing timely updates and ensuring clear, consistent communication.
    • Draft and distribute board communications, reports, and presentations in coordination with executive leadership. 
    • Collaborate with colleagues to compile reports, information, stories, etc. in support of advocacy efforts.
  • Strategic Support
    • Partner with leadership to support board recruitment and succession planning.
    • Monitor trends and innovations in nonprofit governance and bring forward recommendations for continuous improvement.
    • Participate in strategic planning and special projects as assigned.
    • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
    • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of not for profit governance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong project management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive board and organizational information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience working with executive leadership and/or boards of directors/trustees for a not for profit, preferably within a foundation and/or advancement/development division/department.
  • Passion for the mission and values of the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with board management portals (e.g., Directors Desk, BoardEffect, OnBoard, Diligent).

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $82,513.60 Annually

Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.


Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
