The Cybersecurity Analyst II plays a vital role in protecting Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) data and systems. Responsible for the implementation, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of HMH's cybersecurity solutions, demonstrating increasing proficiency and independence in these tasks. Involves actively investigating, documenting, and responding to threats and vulnerabilities, as well as assisting in internal cybersecurity assessments of new and existing technology, processes, systems, and projects. May guide junior team members and contribute to the development of cybersecurity best practices.

 

This position is primarily remote with the exception of necessary onsite requirements such as a DTS event, troubleshooting event/incident, etc.

 

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Cybersecurity Analyst II at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Monitor cybersecurity alerts and logs from various cybersecurity tools (e.g., security information and event management [SIEM], Intrusion Detection System [IDS]/Intrusion Prevention System [IPS], firewalls, endpoint security), analyzing alerts to identify potential cybersecurity incidents.
  • Perform analysis of cybersecurity events, identify and classify threats, and determine initial scope and incident impacts.
  • Assist in incident response efforts, following established procedures for containment, eradication, and recovery, and documenting incident details.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of cybersecurity documentation, processes, and procedures, providing input for improvements.
  • Implement, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools and technologies under guidance, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Stay informed about the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and best practices, and their potential impact on HMH.
  • Participate in cybersecurity awareness training initiatives, delivering training content and promoting cybersecurity best practices. 
  • Collaborate with other Digital Technology Services (DTS)/Information Technology (IT) teams to implement and maintain cybersecurity controls, providing support and guidance on cybersecurity requirements.
  • Prepare cybersecurity reports and metrics, compiling data and assisting in the analysis of cybersecurity trends.
  • Resolve complex service desk tickets related to cybersecurity events/incidents and other cybersecurity-related inquiries, providing effective solutions and escalating when necessary. 
  • Assist in conducting internal cybersecurity assessments, including vulnerability scans, and document findings. 
  • Actively guide and mentor peers and junior cybersecurity personnel, fostering their growth through sharing best practices and procedures related to cybersecurity.
  • Participate in vulnerability scanning, patch deployment, and remediation efforts, coordinating activities for assigned systems. 
  • Travel to any HMH location, possibly with minimal notice, to provide immediate on-site support for cybersecurity incidents, urgent investigations, or other critical requests from cybersecurity or hospital leadership.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Work experience (4 years) may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 3-5 (7+ if no degree) years of experience in a cybersecurity-related role or similar IT role.
  • Strong working knowledge of vulnerability scanning tools, vulnerability assessment methodologies, risk scoring systems (e.g., CVSS), and remediation techniques.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antivirus software, vulnerability management (VM), and risk assessment.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles across various platforms and business units, such as networking, applications, identity and access management, operating systems, cloud services, email gateways, privileged access management, VM, database security, data loss prevention, endpoint security, and software development.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., National Institute of Standards and Technology [NIST]), regulations (e.g., Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA], Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard [PCI DSS], General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR]), and industry best practices.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (e.g., Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol [TCP/IP], Domain Name System [DNS], HyperText Transfer Protocol [HTTP], etc.).
  • Working knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and their cybersecurity features. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to travel to other HMH locations as needed.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts (e.g., Amazon Web Services [AWS], Azure, Google Cloud Platform [GCP]).
  • Familiarity and/or experience working in healthcare provider environments.
  • Understanding of common attack vectors and mitigation techniques.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified in at least one of the following: a. International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) Certification b. Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Certification c. CompTIA Certification d. Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) e. Or other related cybersecurity certification

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $95,555.20 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
