The Operating Room (OR) Equipment Technician is responsible for the operations of equipment in the operating room prior to and during surgery. This position coordinates with charge nurse and team leaders to assure proper allocation of equipment for efficient running of the operating room.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Equipment Tech, OR at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Functions as OR Equipment Technician.
  • Interacts with nurses and medical staff to resolve technical problems encountered during surgery.
  • Test six makes or models of microscopes for safety and integrity prior to patient use and modifies diopter for specific surgical cases.
  • Performs preoperative quality control check on YAG, Argon, Candela and COS Lasers.
  • Performs daily pressure checks on oxygen and nitrogen hospital grade gas cylinders.
  • Executes daily maintenance and testing of operative video systems.
  • Acts as liaison with Bio Med and Maintenance Department: a. Delivers and picks up equipment promptly. b. Completes requisition order appropriately. c. Monitors what equipment is out for repair and follows through d. Makes simple repairs as needed.
  • Follows O.R. Policy on sterile technique when functioning in the Operating Room during surgical procedures. 
  • Clean, organizes and maintains equipment in storage area and Ors and restock laparoscopy carts.
  • Coordinates delivery of equipment and supplies to the OR.
  • Functions as Operating Room Transport Aide a. Picks up pre-operative patients from inpatient units. b. Verifies time for pick up with main desk. c. Verifies patient name and location with main desk. d. Verifies patient ID with floor nurse. e. Follows OR policy and assisting patient onto stretcher with assistance of floor nurse. f. Treats patients with dignity and respect while transporting g. Assures patient's privacy.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Minimum of 6 months hospital experience.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $19.33 Hourly
