Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director of Perioperative Business Analytics at Hackensack Meridian includes:

  • Provide statistical, financial and benchmark reports on the Perioperative performance – system and local.
  • Analyze and provide focused areas for improvement to support improved throughput.
  • Responsible for project management focusing on all perioperative metrics and ensures efficiencies within perioperative
    services by optimizing block schedules, on-time starts, and room turn-around times.
  • Serve on the network Perioperative Services Committee. Maintains the network share point database.
  • Collaborate with OR Committee to develop implement and monitor policies and procedures to improve utilization and
    efficiency.
  • Support development and provide surgeon and procedure level supply cost per case data in collaboration with supply
    chain.
  • Provides guidance and support in developing ROI and/or cost benefit analyses for new product introduction, capital
    equipment and or program development.
  • Participate in value analysis committee. Coordinate trial and implementation of new products.
  • Work collaboratively with purchasing department to ensure best contract prices. Lead and support all efforts to
    standardize products to achieve greatest efficiencies.
  • Works with various third-party Perioperative Service providers in aligning business processes.
  • Assist with the coordination / maintenance of preference cards as related to cost per case.
  • Improve utilization and efficiency.
  • Coordinates operations of the perioperative care and collaborates with all Perioperative Department channels of
    communication, ensuring optimal patient care needs are met throughout Perioperative Services.
  • Assisting as needed with developing, preparing, and submitting budgets. Monitors vacancies on responsibility
    summary and reports data to the Vice President and Nurse Managers.
  • Assisting as needed with business plan development for new and expanding programs.
  • Responsible for staffing targets and benchmarks in all Perioperative cost centers.
  • Mentors managers and coordinators regarding fiscal responsibilities.
  • Evaluates blocked booking with OR Committee.
  • Provides a cost-effective environment while maintaining a high quality of care.
  • Monitors charging procedure to assure compliance and maximizing revenue.
  • Evaluates feasibility, cost, and priority of physician and personnel requests regarding equipment, supplies, and
    personnel.
  • Represent all Perioperative Services departments interfacing with other operational departments including, but not
    limited to Purchasing, Information Technology, and Finance, Human Resources, Nursing, Administration, Business
    Development, Business Intelligence.
  • Is a resource for EPIC nursing and perioperative practice for the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.
  • Assists management team in effectively dealing with scheduling problems, developing, and applying leadership skills.
  • Consistently responsible for the delivery of quality and safety outcomes for patient, employee, and physician.
  • Responsible for physician, patient and employee satisfaction.
  • Disciplines, counsels, and settles grievances. Recommends and participates in hiring/discharge/transfers of
    personnel.
  • Directs the units in achieving goals that are aligned with the hospital goals and priorities as determined by senior
    leadership.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs
    (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 15 lbs., and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably within business administration, finance, or accounting.
  • A minimum of five years of professional accounting, business administration, finance, or information systems
    experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with personal computer-based applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and
    data base systems.
  • Report writing capabilities and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience in process improvement and lean principles and tools strongly preferred. Knowledge and experience with
    OR block scheduling and benchmark management for staffing strongly preferred.
  • Management experience in a Perioperative environment preferred.
  • Experience with Perioperative documentation.
  • Very strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Knowledge of EPIC.
  • Familiarity with Perioperative processes.
  • Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of Staff, Management and Physicians.
  • Must be able to handle multiple complex tasks and priorities.
  • Must be a dedicated team player with the willingness and desire to learn and grow within the organization.
  • Must be a highly self-motivated individual with the ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with perioperative products and equipment.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $171,891.20 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
