Under the direction of the Site Director, the Mgr, Radiation Oncology Services is responsible for the organization and development of high performing teams and oversight of all technical, clinical and clinical support services personnel (i.e. radiation therapist, nursing, clerical). The Mgr, Radiation Oncology Srvc is accountable for meeting the operational, financial and quality objectives of the clinical and clinical support teams and identifies opportunities to implement best practice approaches and introduce innovations to better address needs across the continuum of care. The manager will collaborate with local hospital leadership and Oncology (Business Unit #3) Network Care Transformation Services to identify, measure and improve all metrics for maximizing patient outcomes and position HMH oncology program for success in value base care.
A day in the life of a Manager, Radiation Oncology Services at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Develops and implements safety procedures, staff education, and radiation therapy education as required for staff.
2. Ensures high quality standards are met for radiation services for inpatients, outpatients, and employees. Maintains the same standard level of care in all areas regardless of location or patient type.
3. Assures that departmental services are in accordance with standards established by the medical staff and state, local, federal, and all regulatory agencies. Prepares and maintains all records relevant to licensing or regulatory agencies. Ensures all accreditation standards are met.
4. Develops competencies and ensures appropriate training for radiation therapists. Ensures radiation therapists are current with their NJ DOH license and ARRT.
5. Ensures the maintenance of technical and clinical proficiency of radiation therapists on treatment machine by executing new and/or difficult treatment set-ups with them and ensuring they understand department procedure.
6. Monitors and practices infection control measures as set forth by infection control department.
7. Develops strong partnerships with staff, patients, families, and physicians to collaborate effectively on ways to continuously improve programs, outcomes, and patient/staff/provider satisfaction. Guides external partnerships in support of these activities.
8. Assists the radiation safety officer in recommending programs for technical aspects of radiation safety and regularly reviews and maintains records such as those for personal radiation exposure, dose calibration, equipment calibration, and preventive maintenance. Represents the department at administrative conferences, committees, and seminars.
9. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
10. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
11. Manages and/or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of team members. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement. Establishes clear objectives tied to department and/or organizational strategic goals. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
12. Represents the department on interdisciplinary such as Radiation Safety, Leadership and Operations Committee.
13. Involved in the development and/or management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.
14. Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate.
15. Maintains network level contracts for radiation therapy equipment, including hardware and software (sites include RMC, JSUMC, OMC, SOMC).
16. Coordinates staffing across all the sites to ensure efficient utilization of radiation therapists and arranges coverage as needed.
17. Conducts yearly performance appraisals for staff.
18. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
19. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. 5 years of progressive leadership experience
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management.
2. Previous management experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Current New Jersey license as a Radiation Therapy Technologist.
2. Registered by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy.
