The Technical Service Line Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of patient care from pre-procedure through post-procedure phase.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Technical Service Line Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Accountability and Responsibility: Practices under direct supervision of an RN.  Acts as a Preceptor working closely with the OR Educator. Supports a training philosophy and acts to facilitate this program on a daily basis.  Assists with in-service and training for staff on specialty related equipment and instrumentation related to their service line oversight. Provides on-going review of related topics to personnel at all levels.  Functions as scrub in OR, as needed: Performs all duties as expected. Maintains up-to-date preference cards in specialty and reviews with physicians as necessary: Documents and makes changes into the system to ensure lists are accurate. Maintains current knowledge of technical developments and use of instrumentation and equipment: Remains competent in the use of appropriate surgical equipment.
  • Environmental Surveillance: Reviews and monitors daily environmental surveillance such as temperature and humidity, medical waste disposal, sterilization logs and other duties as assigned. Surveillance is performed on a daily basis and acceptable levels are maintained. Works with SPD to obtain recommended policies and parameters to effectively provide sterilization of equipment/instrumentation.
  • Supply Management: Establishes, implements and maintains an inventory control system for supplies in assigned area in coordination with manager and physicians: Inventory control system is functioning accurately and all staff is trained to utilize the system properly on an ongoing basis. Ensures all supplies and equipment are available and functioning in assigned areas prior to case and coordinates with physicians and materials manager: Makes rounds to ensure the necessary equipment and supplies are available. Attends Scheduling Huddle to coordinate any equipment conflicts.  Acts as a liaison between OR, Materials Management and BioMed to fulfill needs
  • Provides Care: Provides quality patient care as outlined in Perioperative Standards of Care and the Department's policy and Procedures.
  • Safety: Maintains a safe environment by strict adherence to established safety principles and practice, including but not limited to:  universal precautions, electrical hazards, hazardous waste, positioning, and aseptic technique. Is able to provide correct response to each situation in a timely, efficient and calm manner.
  • Turnover Procedures: Working with RN, delegates work assignments to the appropriate team members to ensure quick, safe room turn overs, equipment preparation and transport/monitoring patients all following established protocols in established time frame. Work is delegated among available knowledgeable staff.
  • Finance: Assists in supply product evaluation and recommends cost effectiveness of solutions. Assists with cost saving initiatives, working with the leadership and Business manager of the OR.
  • Communication: Coordinates pre-procedure phone calls, post-procedure phone calls, and data collection for Outcomes studies/PI projects
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification
  • Certified Surgical Technologist or Radiography Certification

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $32.92 Hourly

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
