The PCA Trauma Technician performs assigned duties under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse. Duties require detailed knowledge of trauma procedures in order to provide trauma surgeons with appropriate instruments and supplies throughout the course of the trauma response. Duties require the ability to implement a plan of care, meeting the needs of each trauma patient and for all patients that are under the care of the Trauma Response team.
1. Cares for patients while providing safe, direct patient care, demonstrating knowledge and competency in completing assigned tasks, treatments and procedures according to established standards and policies. Performs patient care duties in a safe and efficient manner. Follows plan of care as directed by the Registered Nurse. Examples may include, but are not limited to: Assisting in receiving the trauma patient to the trauma admitting area. 2. Accurately completes assignments in a timely manner and as prioritized by the trauma surgeon and/or RN: Assignments are completed accurately and within scheduled time periods. Able to adapt to changes in assigned tasks and/or patient assignments with appropriate supervision and direction from the trauma response RN and/or surgeon. 3. Communicates handoff of pertinent patient information, including actual and/or potential problems to the registered nurse throughout the shift, during transfer and shift report. Reports timely and accurate changes in the patient's vital signs, condition, etc. 4. Cooperates with reassignments in the interest of patient care. Adapts daily work schedule to meet the needs of the unit. During periods of no patient activity in the TAA, the trauma tech will report to the SICU charge nurse for additional direction to best meet the needs of the trauma patient population. 5. Anticipates and is able to adapt and respond to the needs of various trauma scenarios, always maintaining patient care/patient and team safety as a priority. 6. Participates in the improvement processes of quality patient care. Anticipates the needs of trauma patients and trauma response teams while always maintaining patient safety as a priority. 7. Provides for effective and safe patient/customer outcomes through judgment and critical actions.: Clinical outcomes accurately reflects the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services regulations, JCAHO and Meridian Health policies and procedures. 8. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 9. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
