The Pharmacy Supervisor organizes and manages daily Pharmacy Department operations to ensure efficient, safe and timely accomplishment of established patient-focused duties and expectations. Troubleshoot internal department issues and implement appropriate resolutions. Act as liaison between Pharmacy and other healthcare professionals as necessary. Cover for absence of Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor, Pharmacy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team with the oversight of the daily operations of the department, and keeps the Assistant Director and Director of Pharmacy apprised of any significant issues.
2. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team with ensuring that Pharmacy services are optimal and meet patient and provider needs.
3. Identifies and corrects potential problems and performs service recovery as needed. 
4. Troubleshoots daily interactions and instances that deviate from standard and require oversight or mediation for resolution. 
5. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team with meeting all regulatory, accreditation and certification requirements.
6. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team and the Pharmacy Buyer with maintaining control and security of medication products utilized within the organization.
7. Coordinate the activities of staff to ensure appropriate response time.
8. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement. 
9. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
10. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
11. Works with the Assistant Director and/or Director of Pharmacy and other supervisory staff to help coordinate the training for and use of technology within the department.
12. Consistently arrive at work on time, as established; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
13. Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Office/Google platform programs required for day to day work, including Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides and Gmail  
14. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of pharmacy staff  
15. Coordinate and lead team and staff meetings for assigned areas of responsibility   
16. Precepts pharmacy students and residents
17. Responsible for communicating medication supply issues to the Pharmacy Buyer..
18. Assists the Pharmacy Management Team with the scheduling of the Pharmacy staff.
19. Responsible for communicating identified staff concerns to the Assistant Director and/or the Director of Pharmacy.
20. Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested. 
21. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate. 
22. Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
23. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate. 
24. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 
25. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. BS in Pharmacy. 
2. Minimum of 5 years experience in Hospital Pharmacy

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. PharmD preferred.
2. Experience with managing people and processes
3. In depth understanding of USP 797 and USP 800
4. PGY-1 Residency preferred
5. PGY-2 Administrative Residency preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Registered Pharmacist License.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $146,057.60 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
