Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Endoscopy Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Prepares Endoscopy rooms with appropriate supplies and equipment necessary for each individual procedure; refers to the Physician's preference list for special needs.
  • Assists physician with various procedures as directed in an accurate and precise manner.
  • Maintains endoscopy equipment. Keeps cart/accessories/supplies neat, clean and dry.
  • Transfers patients to and from their unit or other department as needed.
  • Accompanies patient to lobby upon discharge when necessary.
  • Assist with ordering supplies as assigned.
  • Checks linen carts daily to ensure that they are properly stocked.
  • Cleans and remakes stretchers after use, prepares stretchers and general area for next day.
  • Assists with patients' emergencies by obtaining emergency equipment and performing other duties as requested by the R.N.
  • Has awareness of emergency codes.
  • Adheres to the standard identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

 

Reprocessing Scopes Job Function:

  • Adheres to policy and procedure for reprocessing scopes and the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Wears PPE including gown, gloves and mask.
  • Leak Testing.
  • Manual cleaning
  • High Level disinfection.
  • Changing filters.
  • Keeps logs up to date.
  • Recognizes need to order cleaning supplies.
  • Let's the charge nurse know of any problems with the reprocessing process.
  • Calls equipment tech support as needed.
  • Sends scopes out for repairs when necessary,
  • Aware of the potential for exposure to hazardous materials. Knows where to find the MSDS for such materials and takes precautions.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Minimum of 1 year related clinical experience with recent experience in cleaning scopes.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Endoscopy Technician

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  •  AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified Endoscope Reprocesssor.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $20.32 Hourly
