The Director of Behavioral Health Breakthrough Therapies is responsible for supporting, developing, and harmonizing Behavioral Health (BH) clinical research and care pathways within the Hackensack Meridian Health BH Service Line.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director of Behavioral Health Breakthrough Therapies at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Maintain the qualifications, conduct, participation, advancement, education, ethics, and discipline of team members involved in BH clinical research.
  • Develop, harmonize, and expand clinical and translational research programs within the BH Service Line.
  • Facilitate research collaborations with other HMH departments and organizations outside HMH when such collaborations facilitate the organization's research aims.
  • Disseminate results of HMH research through presentation at national and international meetings, publication in scholarly journals and lay publications, and media outreach.
  • Interact well with public, media, community agencies, and committees relevant to clinical BH Service Line research activities.
  • Support and facilitate the establishment of a Psychedelic Therapy Treatment Center (PTTC) should such therapies receive Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
  • Initiate a clinical trial of psychedelic therapy in cancer patients with major depressive disorder, which will involve developing a research protocol and budget, detailing follow-through on regulatory requirements, and assisting with procurement of funding.
  • Develop and expand research programs in digital mental health therapeutics.
  • Support, harmonize, and expand multi-site clinical trials within the BH Service Line.
  • Assist in the coordination and harmonization of BH Service Line clinical pathways.
  • Mentor staff on clinical research best practices.
  • Encourage staff to pursue scholarly activities, conduct clinical trials, attract grant funding, and enhance academic and research activities within the BH Service Line.
  • Build a culture and tone of growth, innovation, and cooperation that ensures alignment among stakeholders involved in research within the BH Service Line.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports regarding research activities and progress.
  • Regularly attend meetings relevant to the above job responsibilities as determined by the BH Service Line Executive Vice President.
  • Represent Psychiatry and BH research as a member of relevant BH Service Line Leadership Committees.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • MD or DO degree Graduate of ACGME approved residency in Psychiatry.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports, legal documents, journals, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with statistics and probabilities. Applying percentages and ratios to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations that have many variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in any form given.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current New Jersey medical license.
  • Current US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate.
  • Current NJ Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) certificate.
  • Board certified or Board eligible in the American Board of Psychiatry.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $127,212.80 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.


Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
