This position is responsible for supervising, performing repairs, installations, replacements and testing of all heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration systems and associated equipment for the medical center and of site buildings. Part of the emergency response team and snow removal team. Performs duties at locations separated from the hospital and all other duties as required.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Chief HVAC Mechanic at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Maintains all temperature controls. Schedule personnel on daily work assignments. Works from equipment manuals, blueprints and sketches for prompt repair of all equipment. Works with and understands the building management system to control temperature and air flow.
  • Assigns PM and CM work orders to staff via the computerized work order system daily. Schedules work with Department Supervisors as needed for their input. Inputs all PM and CM work orders to the computerized work order system daily. Provides overall supervision to the A/C Section. Performs annual employee evaluations.
  • Requisitions for equipment parts and building repairs the same day as notified. Requisitions are complete and accurate before submitting. Contact purchasing and/or the vendor. Processes and secures all material delivered to the shop on the same day.
  • Insures all SWO's are completed accurately and submits them to the Chief Power Plant Supervisor for filing. Insures all material, power equipment and tools are available for a continuous work flow.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), GED equivalent programs, and/or other Vocational degrees/certificates.
  • Certificate in advanced technical school for HVAC acceptable.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in the HVAC/refrigeration field.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $37.69 Hourly
