The Manager, Development - Foundation will support fundraising efforts in their assigned area. The role will consist of a broad range of responsibilities aimed at helping to support the essential work of the frontline fundraisers. Responsibilities will include work related to event planning and execution, annual giving, donor relations, communications, data management, and coordination tasks. The Manager will need to be well versed in all aspects of a complex fundraising organization with knowledge and skills suitable to all areas noted here. The Manager will have a flexible work style to be able to transition quickly between multiple projects and levels of leaders. Following existing processes and procedures, and under the guidance of Foundation leaders and staff, the Development Manager will be tasked with the planning and execution of small fundraising related projects including cultivation, stewardship and recognition events, check presentations, tours, meetings, etc. The Manager will also assist with the coordination of donor relation activities and help to support a comprehensive stewardship program that improves donor retention and fosters trust and loyalty among donors.

 

This position will be located in Edison and will require travel to our network locations primarily in our Central and North (NJ) Region. 

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Development - Foundation  at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Provides support to the team in the development and implementation of philanthropic events and meetings which engage donors and enhance the image and reputation of Hackensack Meridian Health and HMHF.
  • Plans and executes fundraising events, campaign cultivation events, and recognition/stewardship events, check presentations, tours, board meetings, and other key meetings. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) venue design, run of show/program, digital assets, invitation criteria, response tracking, event expenses, and event marketing.
  • Collaborates with the communications team to craft event messaging including program remarks, video scripts, and other events related content as needed.
  • Manages event data, response tracking, reporting, and post-event follow up to ensure comprehensive execution.
  • Communicates with donors and board members via phone, e-mail and in-person.
  • Collaborates with gift officers on portfolio review and strategy development for cultivation and stewardship.
  • Assists with the planning and execution of general communication across the region including marketing, impact reporting, annual giving, stewardship, and event briefings.
  • Oversees a strategic stewardship process for in-kind donations designed to maximize donor engagement and deepen relationships. This includes assessing gift significance to coordinate personalized acknowledgements, such as arranging greetings with hospital leadership, program staff, or foundation executives, and creating pathways for future support.
  • Assists with the management of donor relations projects including the planning of donor/prospect tours, donor mailings, donor thank you calls, impact report development, handwritten thank you notes, tribute gift lists, donor gifts, special communications, review of naming and plaque proofs, and working with recognition vendors and site teams to help coordinate installations.
  • Partners with team members to maintain accurate and up to date data in the donor database system through the execution of various data related projects.
  • Handles items of a confidential nature and interacts with high level donors.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a large not-for-profit development office.
  • Experience working with various levels of management and managing multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in event based fundraising.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in donor relations.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising principles and practices is desirable.
  • A creative and strategic thinker with the ability to work independently on many projects and establish deadline goals.
  • The ideal candidate will also demonstrate an articulate, genuine touch; professional enthusiasm; ability to innovate and be resourceful; a strong work ethic; professional judgment; discretion; strong interpersonal skills; integrity; and exceptional analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using standard office applications (Google Workplace) and complex fundraising databases (such as Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge).
  • The position requires the ability to travel to and work onsite in the region as needed as well as at the central offices in Edison.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge or equivalent donor database.
  • Experience in a healthcare fundraising setting at a large multi-hospital system.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $95,555.20 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
