The Supervisor, Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all medication storage and preparation in the organization.
A day in the life of a Pharmacy Supervisor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Assists the Operations Manager with management of the daily operations of the department, and keeps the Operations Manager and/or Director of Pharmacy apprised of any significant issues.
2. Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with ensuring that Pharmacy services are optimal and meet patient and provider needs.
3. Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with meeting all regulatory, accreditation and certification requirements.
4. Assists the Director of Pharmacy, Operations Manager and Systems/Purchasing Manager with maintaining control and security of medication products utilized within the organization.
5. Coordinate the activities of staff to ensure appropriate response time.
6. Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
7. Responsible for communicating medication supply issues to the Systems/Purchasing Manager.
8. Assists the Operations Manager as required with the scheduling of the Pharmacy staff.
9. Responsible for communicating identified staff concerns to the Director of Pharmacy and/or the Operations Manager.
10. Works with the Director of Pharmacy and other managers to help coordinate the training for and use of technology within the department.
11. Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
12. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
13. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. BS in Pharmacy.
2. Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
3. 2 years of hospital pharmacist experience.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Experience with managing people and processes.
2. Master's degree or a Pharm.D degree.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Registered Pharmacist.
Working Conditions:
Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 40 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
