The Staff Development Educator provides the overall education and clinical direction of the facility. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, s/he is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating educational programs. S/he manages the facility compliance on regulating standards, quality improvement, and programs focusing on customer service. Coordinates the Infection Control within the confines of established policies and procedures, including; surveillance, identification, and analysis of problem areas.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Staff Development Educator  at Hackensack Meridian Health Nursing and Rehab can be described as:

 

  • 1. Manages the facilities mandatory in-services including:
    • Plans, organizes and directs in-service meetings ensuring staff participation to promote professional growth for al nursing staff. 
    • Maintains and updates content of in-service to ensure current research/evidence-based practices are being utilized. o Assist in evaluation of staff competency.
    • Develop, implement and maintain an effective orientation program that orientates new employees to the facility, its policy and procedures to his/her duties and position.
    • Monitors staff performance to ensure compliance with established safety regulation in the use of equipment and supplies
    • Maintains accurate compliance records and in-service hours of staff participation
  • Counsels, employees, provides support and fosters professional growth. Assess individual and collective learning needs of staff and provides appropriate education.
  • Assists supervisors and charge nurses as necessary. Acts as a resource person and role model for clinical staff.
  • Educates staff as needed regarding safety procedures for documenting reports and all accompanying paperwork.
  • Assists in investigation of safety reports.
  • Participates in the interviewing and hiring process for staff
  • Determines solutions to problems; implements infection control measures; follow-up to prevent further problems
  • Provide education to all levels of employees/medical staff in infection control measures.
  • Communicates with Infection Control Director, DON, Senior VP Clinical Services, & Infection Control Medical Director when appropriate seeking approval & advice in situations where warranted or in situations outside personal authority & expertise.
  • Tailors approach to specific audiences and individuals to maximize attentiveness and participation with in-services.
  • Meets with the Director of Nursing and discusses plans and priorities for infection control activities on a weekly basis or as necessary.
  • Assists in presentation of reports including but not limited to; Antibiotic Resistance (MRSA, VRE, & TRE) reports, the Critical Care Study, C. difficile reports, Bacteremia reports, T. B. reports and P.I. activities( Needle stick Prevention and Sharps Eval.
  • Assists in the collection and analyzing of data for surveillance statistics and identification of trends as necessary.
  • Assess the delivery of Patient care throughout the facility and determines compliance with infection control policies and procedures as in the infection control plan.
  • Serves as consultant to nursing and other departments (such as admitting, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance and rehabilitation departments) on the care of patients at risk or susceptible to infection
  • Ensures nursing staff are familiar with state, federal & local laws & regulations.
  • Ongoing observation for regulatory compliance including mandatory reporting regulations.
  • Maintains & updates policies & procedures & in accordance with regulations.
  • Participates in facility surveys (inspections).
  • Reports communicable as well as unusual diseases of epidemiological significance to appropriate local or state departments of health.
  • Assists in review of the environmental aspects of Infection Control in accordance with New Jersey State Department of Health Standards.

Qualifications

  • BSN or be currently enrolled in a BSN Program
  • Minimum of 5 years recent clinical experience
  • CPA or CFA Education
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • Certificate for OASIS Specialist - Clinical Preferred

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $90,750.40 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
