The Language Services Coordinator ensures that patients who are deaf and/or LEP (Limited English Proficiency) obtain the services of an interpreter in compliance with federal mandates and to assure that the services which are provided are not compromised by ineffective communication. This position is a 100% in-person role and will sit at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Travel across the network may be required in this position. 

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Language Services Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Coordinates interpretation services for LEP, Deaf patients and/or their family members.
  • Coordinates and ensures successful requests for language interpreters by maintaining the data base and dispatching qualified bilingual and/or sign staff interpreters as requested via Interpreter Request Line. 
  • Coordinates the translation of vital documents in multi-languages and other educational materials for patients and family members.
  • Coordinates meeting schedules and appointments as related to departmental activities.
  • Prepares monthly activity reports.
  • Assists in the management of budget reconciliation and financial transactions (i.e., invoices, check requests, purchase requisitions).
  • Participates in Basic Interpreter Training course by preparing handouts, acting as evaluator of student skill level and/or lecturing.
  • Participates in and/or lead Medical Center committees, teams, and projects as requested and/or assigned.
  • Assists in the investigation of an LEP/ deaf patient care complaint. Refer inquiries/complaints to appropriate hospital staff member for evaluation, resolution and follow through. 
  • Conducts proactive rounds to assess patient's level of satisfaction and expectations.
  • Engage in outside speaking events to represent the Medical Center to promote patients' rights, including but not limited to, education on federal mandates.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager and/or Administrative Director.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • 3-4 years corporate experience and/or international relations.
  • Computer literate in MS Office products.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • College degree preferred.

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $55,556.80 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
