The Senior Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist will manage the credentialing process in the department from initial contact with applicants through their final appointment to the Jersey Shore University Medical and Dental Staff in compliance with its Constitution and Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, as well as with the appropriate accrediting and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Senior Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Manages the initial appointment process for all applicants to the Medical Staff ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies (The Joint Commission, CMS, federal and state), as well as the Medical Staff Constitution and Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.
  • Leads the work of Medical Staff Credentialing Specialists in the Medical Staff Office.
  • Provides training to Medical Staff Credentialing Specialists on the credentialing process.
  • Serves as the `go-to` person within the Medical Staff Office when it comes to the credentialing process.
  • Coordinates and monitors the review and analysis of practitioner applications and accompanying documents, ensuring applicant eligibility. 
  • Oversees thorough background investigation, research and primary source verification.
  • Identifies issues that require additional investigation and evaluation, validates discrepancies and ensures appropriate follow up.
  • Oversees the preparation of credentials files for presentation to the Credentials Committee, flagging any issues the Committee and/or Chair may need to be alerted to.
  • Works closely with Department Chairs, administrators, physicians and applicants to facilitate resolution of credentialing issues and concerns. 
  • Credentials Committee Facilitator who meets with the committee chair to review agenda issues prior to the committee meeting.
  • Processes requests for privileges, ensuring compliance.
  • Responds to inquiries from other healthcare organizations, interfaces with internal and external customers on day-to-day credentialing and privileging issues as they arise.
  • Utilizes credentialing database, optimizing efficiency, and performs query, report and document generation.
  • Documents all actions of the Credentials Committee.
  • Processes all actions following approval by the Board of Trustees.
  • Covers for Medical Staff Specialist-Reappointments when needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years credentialing experience in a Medical Staff Office with knowledge of medical credentialing and privileging procedures and standards, as well as knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills to achieve objectives.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and problems.
  • Possesses comprehensive working knowledge of subject matter.
  • Demonstrates reliability, tactfulness, honesty and discretion.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and be able to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrates exemplary organizational skills while setting appropriate priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Exemplifies excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ECHO Database.
  • Familiar with Roberts Rules of Order.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • NAMSS certification as a Certified Professional Medical Services Manager (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentials Specialist (CPCS).

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $28.93 Hourly

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
