The Recreation Therapist is under the supervision of the Director of Recreation. He/she functions as a member of the Recreation Department and is a resource to other therapists in his/her area of expertise. He/she is responsible for ensuring that his/her assigned residents receive optimal services from the department

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Complete assessment of each resident that identifies recreational therapy needs.
  • Create and implement individual care plans and therapies for each resident.
  • Document quarterly/annual progress for each resident.
  • Create Activities Calendar for residents that meets the full range of diversified programs, including: Physical, Social, Intellectual, Creative, Sensory, Spiritual, and Community.
  • Educate staff regarding the role of the Recreation Therapist.
  • Participate in the development and review of policies and practices related to Recreation and Recreation Therapy.
  • Understand and meet all government requirements, including documentation, certification, continuing education, and reporting. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Maintain full documentation and complete all administrative requirements as required.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Academic credentials including a college degree in Recreation, Music, or Art Therapy and/or related experience.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with other staff.
  • Effective communication with other staff, medical personnel, residents and their family/significant others, visitors and outside agencies and referral services.
  • Familiarity with CMS (Medicare System)

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Casework and group experience
  • Long-term care facility experience
  • Prior work experience with geriatric and disabled populations.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish)

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $31,674.24 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
