The Manager, Children's Hospital Business & Analytics is responsible for the overall business operations and strategic planning for the Children's Hospital and Department of Pediatrics. Assists the Site Director and Physician-in-Chief to develop and implement programs to meet the needs for pediatrics, monitors success and reports outcomes. Serves as part of the regional pediatric leadership team, reporting on relevant data and key metrics aligned with hospital and Hackensack Meridian Children's Health network goals and initiatives. Responsible for developing and managing the budget for assigned areas, including monitoring and analyzing key financial indicators and performance metrics. This includes modifying business activities as needed in response to changing financial situations. Ensures that pediatric areas are addressing the initiatives purposefully and proactively. Assists Site Director and pediatric managers in establishing staffing according to departmental goals and budgets, while accountable for quality initiatives including patient satisfaction and providing the best experience to all patients and guests.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Children's Hospital at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Aligns with hospital and care transformation services strategic goals to develop and implement initiatives that support current and future growth of children's services in the north region. Coordinates with physician liaison services, marketing, philanthropy, and community outreach, physician practices, and the children's hospital staff to increase brand recognition and loyalty to the pediatric program.
  • Develops, implements and maintains the necessary systems to ensure accurate and comprehensive tracking of all business/financial aspects of services being provided by the pediatric programs. These include patient billing functions such as pre-authorizations, coding, and denial management, as well as other operational reports that monitor volume, profitability, patient satisfaction, quality and service delivery.
  • Develops, implements and maintains effective communication and collaboration with physicians, other internal and external departments, and vendors.
  • Assist Site Director and Physician-in-Chief with development of annual pediatric budgets. Monitor and manage budgets monthly and provide budget variance explanations.
  • Manage capital equipment purchasing process.
  • Project manager for US News and World Report Pediatric Hospital survey annual submission. Collect, compile and review data for the pediatric specialty practices for survey responses.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant data and metrics, including identification of opportunities, obstacles and potential market developments which will drive unit operation and strategy development.
  • Resource to clinical department heads for financial management and planning, productivity reporting, and purchasing.
  • Support the Site Director and Physician-in-Chief with day-to-day operations, and program development of inpatient and outpatient Pediatric services across the assigned departments/units within the region.
  • Assist Site Director with development of business plans to support business growth opportunities, program development and any other special projects.
  • Analyzes data to proactively identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvement; identifies areas requiring focused response, participates in root cause analyses and development of actionable items.
  • Work with Site Director and Physician-in-Chief to consistently support activities and/or projects that promote patient satisfaction within a patient centered care framework to achieve best practice targets. Engages team in achievement of patient satisfaction goals.
  • Manage philanthropic funds secured through gifts and grants as well as support grant application process to ensure compliance with grant requirements. Manage fund allocations and ensure timely and appropriate use of funds. Provides administrative support for the Pediatric Research Office
  • Partner with Physician Division on the oversight of the pediatric hospital-based physician practices, including hospital medicine, critical care, neonatology, oncology, and palliative care. Assist in the onboarding of new physicians and build collaborative relationships with providers. Assist in payroll management for physicians, including residents & fellows, as well as administrative support team.
  • Provides data support for all pediatric and maternal child surveys, i.e. Children's Hospital Association, Best Maternity Hospital survey, etc.
  • Provides data support for hospital and quality initiatives such as Vermont Oxford, Baby Friendly Hospital, Improve Care Now, Solutions for Patient Safety and other quality collaboratives.
  • Assist the Physician-in-Chief with business plans for new physician recruitment and contract renewals, including benchmark data on salaries, RVUs and equity within the division.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 years directly related experience plus 4 years leadership/management experience.
  • Computer knowledge Microsoft or Google Productivity Suite, billing and scheduling software, etc.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of hospital/facility and professional billing/finance and supervision/office management.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree in business/operations or related field
  • Pediatric hospital and/or service line experience preferred

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $111,924.80 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
