The Associate Dean of Medical Education supports and partners with the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs (Vice Dean) in the oversight and administration of the undergraduate medical education program at the School of Medicine (SOM). The Associate Dean partners with the Vice Dean and others at the SOM to develop and implement innovative programs within the curriculum that move the SOM towards its vision and goals. The Associate Dean primary area of responsibility is the Clinical Skills longitudinal program, and is responsible for curriculum management and oversight of program implementation, outcomes assessment, use of appropriate pedagogies, and faculty development. Additionally, the Associate Dean is responsible for oversight of integration of Clinical Skills with other curricular phases as well as overall longitudinal integration throughout the curriculum. The Associate Dean also conducts special projects as assigned by the Vice Dean or Dean of the SOM.

 

 

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Associate Dean of Medical Education at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Partner with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Course Director for the Clinical Skills longitudinal content area.
  • Lead Clinical Skills team in administrative and curricular implementation of the curriculum
  • Creates strategic vision and goals for the Clinical Skills curriculum and the overall curricular components in conjunction with the Vice Dean
  • Act as SOM representative and leader to all SIM related activities at the IHS campus
  • Oversees the development, implementation and enhancement of Clinical Skills of the undergraduate medical education program at the School of Medicine
  • Participate in the SOM curriculum management plan to ensure the SOM meets its intended outcomes
  • Work with the instructional design team and faculty to implement pedagogical methods that achieve SOM vision and goals.
  • Participate in the leadership and oversight teams of the educational program to ensure the curriculum is meeting its intended outcomes, including longitudinal integration across the curriculum
  • Coordinates Clinical Skillstopics with other curricular phases of the SOM, to ensure integration and effective developmental sequencing of competencies
  • Interface with the administrative team of the Office of Medical Education to ensure that curriculum is developed and implemented in a coordinated manner that achieves the SOM goals.
  • Interface with faculty and staff of Student Affairs and Welfare to ensure success of students in the curriculum
  • Participates in accreditation and licensure activities of the SOM as assigned
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned by the Vice Dean or Dean of the SOM
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ph.D, M.D, or D.O.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Expert knowledge of undergraduate medical education, including curriculum building/revision, use of various pedagogies, curriculum management, outcomes assessment, faculty development and management
  • Experience with accreditation, including LCME, MSCHE, state and local agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience working at a School of Medicine.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $214,240 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
