The Manager, Perioperative Services is a designated leader for Perioperative Services. The Mgr, Perioperative Services is accountable for the 24 hour effective and efficient running of the Inpatient Operating Room. This position assumes responsibility and accountability for perioperative efficiency including patient throughput, staff performance and all components affecting perioperative flow and capacity. The Mgr, Perioperative Services is responsible for OR utilization, block utilization, first case starts, operative times, room and surgeon turnover times, patient safety, policy and procedure adherence, quality and performance improvement measures, risk management and regulatory requirements as well as compliance. The Mgr, Perioperative Services is responsible for the efficiency of the Inpatient operating room including all its components. The Mgr, Perioperative Services ensures staff provides highest quality of care. This position is responsible for the intraoperative patients and oversees processes to ensure optimal efficiency of the inpatient operating room, surgical admission suite and recovery room. This position collaborates with all departments as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center`s Managerial Competencies 
  • Monitors Standards of Practice to ensure compliance with codes of internal and external regulatory and accrediting agencies, including: a. Joint Commission b. NJS and Federal Codes (i.e. DOH, OSHA). c. Other Regulatory Agencies 
  • Ensures Adherence to legal requirements relating to: a. Risk Management b. Patient Bill of Rights c. Other Regulatory Agencies 
  • Provides for the execution of outcomes based practice and directs staff in its application. 5. Provides input for education programs through assessment of staff needs 
  • Evaluates the level of care provide by the Perioperative Staff. 
  • Promotes medical center objectives for patient satisfaction through communication of data and the implementation of methods to sustain or resolve patient satisfaction issues 
  • Creates and monitors unit based indicators as mandated or as necessary, integrating functions of standards development, continuing education, credentialing, performance appraisal, concurrent monitoring, utilization review, risk management, and active problem identification. 
  • Acts as retention officer for areas of responsibility and the department as a whole and implements strategies directed towards retention and recruitment of all nursing and non-nursing employees. 
  • Demonstrates leadership skills: a. Establishes a mutually supportive relationship with all partners in care. b. Maintains a professional relationship with: i. Hospital Administrators. ii. Medical Staff. iii. Department Heads. 
  • Utilizes effective communication skills. 
  • Is responsive to staff needs and offers guidance in solving practice issues when consulted through the performance process. 
  • Collaborates with other clinical departments in developing or analyzing the design of patient throughput and makes recommendations or changes as appropriate. 
  • Develop and maintain processes to support OR utilization. 
  • To work with Pre-Admission Evaluation, Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Admission Staff, to ensure appropriate preoperative testing and evaluation, to complete as many steps as possible before the day of surgery. 
  • To improve the efficiency of non-operative processes and patient flow. 
  • To improve employee engagement and satisfaction across all surgical service constituencies. 
  • Manages the periodic reviews and assessment of the perioperative throughput policies.
  • Directs the generation of timely, accurate reports/statistics per request (and upon authorization) for the medical staff, other departments and all other requestors. 
  • Utilizes data to monitor efficiency and suggest changes to practice. 
  • Identifies opportunities for performance improvement and patient safety. Focusing on these opportunities, will develop and implement plans for improvement. 
  • Addresses and identifies barriers to efficiency and modifies processes as needed. 
  • Identifies opportunities to improve turn over time (wheels in to wheels out) and on time starts. Focusing on these opportunities, will develop and implement plans for improvement.
  • Maintains all employee records/files and evaluations for the Inpatient Operating Room staff. 
  • Responsible for own professional growth. 
  • Participates in development and implementation of programs related to performance improvement activities. 
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, hearing, and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing. 
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing: working towards Master`s degree. 
  • Minimum of 4 years Perioperative experience. 
  • CNOR certified or working towards certification. 
  • Moderate computer skills. 
  • Strong Leadership skills. 

Licenses and Certifications Required: 

  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License. 

Starting Minimum Rate

Starting at $131,144.00 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
