The Sterile Compounding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all medication storage and preparation in the organization. Assists in the development and implementation of pharmacy policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Responsible for oversight of compounding in all the sterile compounding rooms. Ensure regulatory compliance and workflow efficiency for all sterile compounding areas.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor, Sterile Compounding at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Assists the Operations Manager with management of the daily operations of the department, and keeps the Operations Manager and/or Director of Pharmacy apprised of any significant issues.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with ensuring that Pharmacy services are optimal and meet patient and provider needs.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with meeting all regulatory, accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Evaluates workflow in sterile processing areas on a daily basis and acts on opportunities for improvements in team satisfaction and work efficiency.
  • Maintains working knowledge of regulatory requirements of sterile compounding areas and addresses gaps in those requirements to assure full compliance with USP 797 and USP 800.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy, Operations Manager and Systems/Purchasing Manager with maintaining control and security of medication products utilized within the organization.
  • Coordinate the activities of staff to ensure appropriate response time.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Operations Manager with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
  • Responsible for communicating medication supply issues to the Systems/Purchasing Manager.
  • Assists the Operations Manager as required with the scheduling of the Pharmacy staff.
  • Responsible for communicating identified staff concerns to the Director of Pharmacy and/or the Operations Manager.
  • Works with the Director of Pharmacy and other managers to help coordinate the training for and use of technology within the department.
  • Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hospital pharmacist experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree or a Pharm.D. degree.
  • Experience with managing people and processes.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Pharmacist License.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $156,062.40 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
