Job Summary:
Responsible for overall accountability ensuring and maintaining assigned courses. In addition, maintains
accountability for teaching, directing and evaluating nursing students in theory, laboratory, and clinical
practice by planning and developing course content and related experiences in a specific department of
nursing education. Course Coordinators prepare course and clinical schedules and provides input for
instructor and adjunct instructor, and staff evaluations.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Develops, revises, and evaluates educational curriculum, courses, and programs to meet needs of the
learner/student, and to comply with accrediting and educational standards and regulatory agencies,
2. Uses a variety of creative teaching strategies and delivery methods. Formats selected are based upon
size of group and setting appropriate for learning activity; are current, innovative, effective, and cost-
effective. Implements activities that involve learners, promote critical thinking, and technical skills
competencies.
3. Uses problem-solving skills when dealing with student and client issues, incorporates psychosocial,
cultural, communication, spiritual, safety, and evidence-based nursing aspects into educational activities.
4. Demonstrates ability to work with diverse groups of learners. Generational, cultural, and age-specific
considerations are included in educational approaches.
5. Schedules mid-term, end of course and interim meetings with students to evaluate progress; develops
action plans to assist individual students who are having difficulty in meeting course objectives. Keeps
Program Coordinator informed regarding student progress.
6. Keeps students informed of progress and returns graded material in a timely manner. Documents
student progression in a timely manner.
7. Acts as role model for students, instructors, and nursing staff. Provides clinical support to students and
nursing staff.
8. Utilizes current and up-to-date literature, evidence-based practice, best references and practice
standards and research to develop content and materials.
9. Keeps current in specialty area by attending in-service programs, workshops, seminars, and
conventions. Is a member of a professional nursing organization and participates in professional and
community activities.
10. Utilizes Compassion, Connectedness, Creativity, Collaboration, and Courageousness to assist
students to render clinical care in a therapeutic manner.
11. Prepares course and clinical schedules annually and revises as needed.
12. Collaborates with bookstore and book representatives for course needs annually.
13. Conducts course planning and wrap up meetings each semester, and interim course meetings as
needed.
14. Implements plans of action based upon feedback from faculty and students for improved course
outcomes.
15. Coordinates, maintains, and evaluates clinical affiliating agencies.
16. Analyzes and summarizes course-end evaluations and provides results to the Director of Nursing
Education, Program Coordinator, and faculty.
17. Develops exams questions that reflect the content taught.
18. Evaluates the appropriateness and quality of exam questions submitted by faculty.
19. Enters and posts students` grades and academic standing in a timely manner.
20. Formats learning management system relevant to the course.
21. Evaluates students` performance in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings and provides feedback as
needed to foster clinical judgment.
22. Orients new faculty to faculty role and clinical setting.
23. Maintains open communication with students, faculty, staff, nursing program administrators, affiliating
agencies and members of Middlesex College community.
24. Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
25. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program
2. Masters Degree in Nursing
3. Five years of clinical nursing experience

Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
