The Manager Plant Operations coordinates, directs, performs and supervises employees engaged in operation, maintenance and repair of the buildings and utilities systems. Works, coordinates, supervises the activities of the employees engaged in maintenance and repair work of buildings physical structure, of ground and utility systems to include plumbing, masonry, carpentry, electrical work, refrigeration air conditioning, ventilating, heating, steam and mechanical systems.

A day in the life of a Plant Operations Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

• Supervise and perform all general maintenance repairs throughout the Raritan Bay Medical Center. Including: sewerage problems, demolition assignments, minor equipment installations, patient bed repair, dietary equipment repair, ceiling/light bulb/cove/floor tile replacement, roof/sidewalk repair.
• Supervise the testing/repair and installation of all air conditioning equipment. 
• Supervise the proper operation/repair of all refrigeration, ice machines and water coolers in the Medical Center according to manufacturers' specifications and/or random review.
• Supervise the proper completion of all HVAC preventive maintenance work through the Medical Center Preventive Maintenance Program.
• Supervise the testing/repair/installation of 110/208/480 electrical circuits.
• Perform/supervise the trouble-shooting of electrical equipment through the use of testers and metering devices.
• Completes all work in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
• Manage and perform the repair of all plumbing jobs including sinks, faucets, foot pedals, toilets, drain lines, water lines and the replacement of valves for the Medical Center according to procedure.
• Supervise and perform the repairs in a neat and clean atmosphere at all times.
• Complete all work in accordance with the National Plumbing Code directions. 
• Assist with the organizational planning of the department.
• Perform the evaluation performance, disciplinary actions and recognition incentives to the staff. 
• Responds to routine and emergency requests for engineering assistance from other departments within the Medical Center along with developing a good working relationship with members of these departments. 
• Prepare reports, payroll, holiday and vacation schedules, establish and maintain pertinent records and files.
• Demonstrates competency in assessing, analyzing and utilizing data for the purpose of obtaining information necessary for effective decision making and performance improvement processes.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Minimum of five years of technical training. 
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in two of the four trades: electrical, structural, mechanical, plumbing/pipe fitting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Blue Seal Boiler License.

Minimum rate of $107,952.00 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
